In Memoriam PO Keith Pellegri 1967-2010 It is with deep sadness and regret that the Saratoga Springs Police Department must announce the death of (Ret) Police Officer Keith Pellegri. Officer Pellegri died unexpectedly on Tuesday, June 15, 2010. Officer Pellegri was permanently appointed to the department November 30, 1991 and proudly served the citizens of Saratoga Springs until his retirement in 2009. His career was unfortunately cut short after suffering permanent injuries resulting from a motor vehicle accident several years ago. Officer Pellegri ("KP" as he was known to his friends and co-workers) was a charter member of the Department's Bicycle Patrol Program in the 1990's and was one of our first officers to work in the Community Policing Unit. While working in the CPU, Officer Pellegri's primary responsibilities related to working directly with residents at both Jefferson and Vanderbilt Terrace - part of the Saratoga Federal Housing Authority. With his no nonsense approach to problem solving while maintaining his signature relaxed personality, he dramatically improved police-citizen relations with housing authority residents during his tenure and set the standard for officers that followed. During the final years of his service with the department, Officer Pellegri worked with the Traffic Safety Unit. He was well known for his abilities to solve traffic related issues, especially during the busy Saratoga Racecourse meet. His uncanny ability to plan and direct traffic patterns before and after major events and at motor vehicle accident scenes was his trademark. It was said that Keith's traffic cone and flare patterns were so impressive that a 747 jet could easily mistake the highway for a runway. Officer Pellegri is survived by his wife and two children. He will always be remembered by his fellow officers and his presence will be missed. Rest in Peace, Keith.

Recovery Act: Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Formula Program: Local Solicitation
In 2009, the Saratoga Springs Police Department submitted a grant application to the Department of Justice called the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Formula Program: Local Solicitation. The department was awarded this grant in the amount of $22,995.00. These funds are currently being used to purchase hardware (laptop computers, printers, and scanners) and software in order to equip each vehicle in our patrol fleet. With this equipment, officers will be able to complete much of their paperwork without having to return to headquarters. This in effect, will allow for better use of our manpower to remain in their assigned patrol zones. (updated 01/20/2010)
